When I started out with woodturning, my goal was to create the perfect ring. I made a lot of mistakes to say the least. But I never gave up, not on myself or what I was making. I found that even when there was a crack or break hope was not lost. Sometimes I made the crack the highlight of the ring. Other times the cracked disappeared during the finishing process. Many people told me how beautiful the rings and pens were, but I knew where all the flaws were. Then one day I realized, we are no different. We are living our lives always working on being the perfect versions of ourselves. Yet through all that work, we seldom stop to appreciate the beauty that we all possess. Just like wood, sometimes we crack, but we keep working on ourselves. It's those imperfections that help to shape us. The philosophy of "perfectly imperfect"has ancient roots and is still an important part of today's society, especially for promoting mental health and self-acceptance. Cracked Woodturning was created to help promote mental health by using a hobby that helps to support my own healthy mindset.
